IAE, the French Public reference for management
The role of IAEs is to develop research and higher education in business and management within French universities.
IAE FRANCE represents one of the largest French communities in the business and management sciences.
IAEs constitute public spaces that manage to combine equal opportunities and social mobility, in a competitive environment.
Since their creation, IAEs have awarded diplomas to more than 500,000 managers, executives and engineers.
With 37 schools across the country, IAE FRANCE has been building a network of schools with management expertise for more than 60 years.
IAE FRANCE International outreach
To promote the internationalisation of IAE courses and the mobility of students, IAE FRANCE conducts a range of actions.
IAE FRANCE wishes to support IAEs in their international accreditation procedures by offering them additional visibility through its investment in several international networks.
Research guarantees the quality of teaching because it allows teachers to deepen theories, paving the way for the evolution of teaching itself.
Wishing to institutionalize the relations between research and organizations, some IAE have created research chairs.
IAEs constitute public spaces that manage to combine equal opportunities and social mobility, in a competitive environment. IAEs mostly charge only university registration fees. Management education within IAEs is a real strength because it enables high-level employees and managers to be trained while preserving promotion and social diversity. This model of Management School, integrated into universities, is established as the benchmark across all industrialised countries.
IAEs launched their first internships at universities in the 1960s and are particularly active in the fields of apprenticeship training and continuing education, under the various possibilities offered by professional development contracts, returning to education, the validation of professional experience (known as VAP) and validation of experience (known as VAE). Vocational training programmes, in particular those at the end of students’ studies, are seen as part of the process of entry into professional life, with managerial requirements and the obligation to produce a dissertation which gives an account of the missions conducted.
In parallel with this, students work in groups over the course of the academic year on various operational projects. This investment in collaborative and associative projects provides experience of collective work. The management of these projects seeks to build effective actions with concrete results, combined with the technical and conceptual knowledge acquired through lessons.
Focal points for expertise, IAEs are incubators of basic and applied research. They possess recognised research laboratories (Joint Research Units classed as A and A+ by CNRS). Taken as a whole, the IAE FRANCE network is the major location for knowledge creation in the management sciences in France. Their teacher-researchers choose universities for their primary vocation of research and education.
IAE training is not limited to the purely technical aspects but seeks to allow students to acquire a real capacity for reflection. All of the education offered by IAEs combines theoretical contributions from research in management sciences and professional knowledge. Ongoing interactions with actors from public and private organisations allow teachers to constantly illustrate, nurture and enrich educational content. Teaching therefore involves the transmission of academic knowledge and, above all, putting it into practice : case studies, partnership cooperation methods, business projects, serious games and vocational development programmes (internships and apprenticeship or professional development contracts).
IAEs benefit from a strong expertise in their understanding of the international dimension of higher education in terms of the export of training, hosting of international researchers and teachers, student mobility and the development of multi-level, transcultural and multidisciplinary cooperation. As innovators, IAEs understand how to work as a network for international impact..
Strengthened by their diversity, IAEs share a common DNA based on:
Each IAE is in constant contact with companies in its region and is an actor in the attractiveness and development of their territories. IAEs thereby offer education which is adapted to the trades and specific needs of businesses and local employment areas: the presence of business leaders on boards of directors as well as members of the teaching staff, debates with professionals, long-term internships, careers events, apprenticeship contracts, lifelong learning, company chairs etc. IAEs play a powerful economic role at the regional level, where they are important creators of jobs, value and wealth.
